Belt size is measured from the fold where the leather meets the buckle to the middle hole, not end to end. Most belts have five holes, one inch apart, so you can go one or two holes either way.

Lay the belt flat and measure from the buckle fold to the hole you use most. That number is your belt size.
European belts are sized in centimetres. A 34 inch belt is about 85 cm, a 36 is 90 cm and a 38 is 95 cm.
